The Pope is to visit Auschwitz during his visit to Poland in May
In his first month in office, Benedict sent a message to Rome's Jewish community pledging to continue his predecessor's work toward Catholic-Jewish reconciliation.
A few more details in an article entitled:Pope Benedict is very much his own man
Jewish groups have hailed his outreach, praising in particular his visit to a Cologne synagogue and his many meetings with Jewish groups at the Vatican. They also point to his upcoming visit to the Auschwitz concentration camp during his planned trip to Poland in May.
"He has made it very clear that his commitment to this endeavor is no less than (that of) his predecessor," said Rabbi David Rosen, who heads the interreligious relations office for the American Jewish Committee. "This is very good news for the Jews."
Also we are reminded that:
In one of his few bureaucratic changes, Benedict removed the Vatican's top expert on Islam, Archbishop Michael Fitzgerald, as head of the Vatican's office for relations with Muslims and other religions, and sent him to Egypt as papal envoy. He then merged Fitzgerald's old office with the Vatican's culture office.
Fitzgerald wasn’t simply an expert on Islam. There is no problem about experts on Islam. There is a problem, however, about Archbishops who cozy up to vicious Jew-haters and inciters like Al-Qaradwi.
Benedict XVI has also brought about a correction of the previous Vatican line in regard to Islam. In removing archbishop Fitzgerald from the curia, the pope has said the last word on the symposia that he loved to organize with Muslim leaders like sheikh Yussef-Al-Qaradwi or the heads of Al-Azhar, who signed ceremonious appeals for peace with the Vatican and then, the next day, inflamed the crowds by exalting holy war and the suicide terrorists.
In other words, Archbishops with no moral compass.
