In the middle ages Jews were forced into banking as they were barred from owning land, while the Church forbid Christians to lend money for profit. This historical fact was used by antisemites including the Tzarist Secret police and the Nazis to produce anti Jewish propoganda blaming all the worlds ills on the Jew. An example is The International Jew by Henry Ford, a four-volume anti-Semitic work first published in the 1920s. This book has been a particularly powerful tool for hate as despite Ford publicly apologized twice for publishing The International Jew, online anti-Semites continue to use his name to promote it.
